Dear Reader, Do you ever have a week where everything feels quiet on the outside—but underneath, things are shifting? That’s been me. I’ve been editing Venom’s Kiss late into the night, finding those final lines that land like a dagger, and rediscovering scenes that remind me why I started this book in the first place. And it made me think—what about the moment before the story begins? This week, I’m sharing a brand new flash fiction piece: a tiny prequel to Venom’s Kiss, set just before the novel begins. It’s short, intense, and full of the quiet danger that defines Isolde’s world. It was originally part of the prologue which is now deleted. I hope you enjoy it. Here’s what I’m sharing with you this week: So grab a cuppa and settle in—we’ve got a lot to catch up on. ✨ The First CutFlash fiction from the world of Venom’s Kiss London, 1490. Six months a widow, I had crossed the Narrow Sea to seek the truth about my father's death. The whispers in France had been too persistent to ignore. Lady Margaret Beaufort held the keys to every locked door in England. I had come to ask her to open one. The room was colder than I expected. Stone walls, whitewashed and bare, gave off no warmth. A single candle burned low on the table, casting shadows that stretched and twitched like nerves. I stood just inside the threshold, gloves still on, spine straight. The servant had said Lady Margaret would join me shortly. But “shortly” in courtly terms could mean anything. A test of nerves, or loyalty. I didn’t sit. I studied the chamber: the crucifix above the bed, the velvet cushion worn at the knees, the Latin books in tidy rows. Not a single item out of place. Nothing for comfort. Everything for control. My hands trembled slightly—but only I would know. Too late to turn back. I had sent the letter. I had crossed the threshold. The footsteps came without warning—measured, sure. I had been told to kneel when she entered. I didn’t... 📚 Still time to grab free historical reads! 👉 Click here to browse the free reads 💌 Until next time… With all my thanks, 📱 Come Say Hello on Instagram or Facebook I've revamped my social media (starting with Instagram and Facebook) and will be sharing various daily topics like monthly quizzes, weekly historical facts, behind-the-scenes peeks at my books, and Fun Friday posts to start your weekend with a smile. Dear Reader, The book is finished now and has gone out to my advance readers. I always find this part a little frightening. I have lived with this story for months. It was never meant to be more than a single book, and now it has become something much larger. Letting it go, even in stages, is not as easy as I pretend it is. The Kingmaker’s Spy launches in three weeks. And before that happens, there is something I want to tell you: I keep coming back to a detail most people forget. Not the...
